INTRODUCTION

It was hard to know where to begin constructing the Building WhaddaWeek (version 1.0) because there were so many options to consider – construction equipment, different types of buildings, architecture and engineering, ancient constructions, animal homes, and architectural components among them.

We opted for general concepts here, and will provide more specialized Building WhaddaWeeks in the future.  But of course, if your WhaddaKids become excited about building topics not included here, please do follow their lead and explore them.  You can of course list your own doables on the certificate of completion.

Tip for this WhaddaWeek:

  • Some of the suggested doables stretch across multiple days, so think about doing more than one doable, or part of a doable, a day.

EXTRA DOABLES IDEAS

In addition to the Building Week Doables provided, there is a wide scope for other Doables that are not described, some requiring very little preparation.

For example:

  • Build a house of playing cards, and then knock it down.  These are two fun related videos:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xWDnJt1McT4 How to build a tower of cards (0:50)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivgKaQanz5k Building largest card structure – House of Parliament and Big Ben in London – and imploding it, followed by card building instructions (4:02)

  • Play the board game “Monopoly” or “Candyland” or “Snakes and Ladders”

  • If you have a friend who works in construction, see if you can tour a building site

  • Take a see-and-touch field trip to a construction supplies or equipment vendor near you

  • Build a dog house, or add comforts and/or entertainment to other pets’ homes

  • Redecorate your room!  Move furniture around to make the room feel bigger, or cozier, or more efficient, or to take advantage of a window with a view

  • Create an office, school, hospital, or restaurant for your dolls and stuffed animals

  • Make a teepee with uncooked spaghetti.

Hope you have fun!
